The Aftermath of the Lake

I was fine due to moderation, but some of my friends and family were in a world of hurt last Saturday on the lake. Needless to say, Sunday passed rather lackadaisically in my house. Lots of sleeping and watching TV. The sun really takes it out of you ; )

The lake is fun and beautiful but I miss the ocean. Having grown up on an island and spent the majority of my childhood either at the beach or in boats of various kinds (sail boats, shrimp boats, ski boats, fishing boats, ferries, and even small yachts), I just can't seem to reconcile with closed bodies of water. The Gulf of Mexico isn't the most beautiful or cleanliest body of water in the world, but at least you can get away from all the other boat traffic, and find a spot where you can't hear anything but sea gulls calling, and the wind. Its much more relaxing on an ocean than on a lake - Lake Travis, anyway.

Then again, you don't run aground on sand bars, or encounter sudden electrical storms, ominous water spouts, and huge sea swells that almost capsize your boat, on a lake.
