Winter Ice Storm 2007

Almost every year we have an ice storm in Texas (Central Texas, anyway). This year was no exception, with 3 straight days of sub-freezing temperatures, rain, sleet, freezing drizzle, and even a bit of good, old-fashioned snow.

Alot of people in other parts of the country, particularly colder parts of the country, probably laugh when Texas shuts down for 2 or 3 days dues to freezing precipitation. The difference is that we have ICE, not SNOW. The ground is slick, the roadways are dangerous, and there are numerous traffic related fatalities.

The ice clings to tree branches, weighing them down enough to pull down the power lines beneath them. Road crews work all hours of the night to restore power. The schools close, businesses close, flights are cancelled, it's a big mess.

I'm actually READY to go back to work after 3 days of being trapped inside the house.
