2008 Lago Vista Road Race Weekend

Ouch! I have always hated this race. I've never ridden well there, even when I rode/raced a bunch more than I do now, which is part of the reason for the hatred. I have been close a few times in the past but fell apart right at the end.

There are enough small hills to make the race difficult over 80 miles (it is the speed at which we go over the hills that makes them hard), and there is usually enough of a crosswind to stick everyone but the first 5-6 riders in the "gutter" (at the edge of the road, without any draft, when the wind is coming from the side). Throw a little scattered precipitation into the mix and you have the makings of a hard bike race.

Here's a photo from Saturday's Pro-1-2 race. I'm 2nd from the left, next to my much taller teammate, Robbie Robinette.
